What is the role of Platelets in Hemostasis? Describe the Bleeding Disorders.  Introduction Hemostasis is the physiological process that stops bleeding at the site of an injury while maintaining blood in a fluid state within the vascular system. It is a critical mechanism that involves several steps to prevent excessive blood loss and to repair damaged blood vessels. Platelets, also known as thrombocytes, play a pivotal role in hemostasis. They are small, anucleate cell fragments that originate from the cytoplasm of megakaryocytes in the bone marrow.
